Passive Smoking Kills, Especially At Work

Passive, Smoking, Kills
A large study involving over 100,000 people, has just shown that passive smoking was responsible for cancers of the lung, larynx, pharynx, emphysema and chronic obstructive bronchitis. At work, the risk of premature death is almost doubled.

Passive smoking is very hard to bear for those who are victims. A study has shown that besides being inconvenienced, they were no more or less likely to die prematurely, as if they smoked themselves.

They are indeed exposed to the lung, pharynx,  emphysema and chronic obstructive bronchitis. At work, the risk of respiratory disease is increased by 55% and 65% of lung cancer. Generally speaking, this risk is significant for former smokers, that is to say, for those who have stopped smoking for more than ten years: it is then multiplied by 2.3!

This study is particularly important that it followed 123,479 people exposed to passive smoking for seven years (Study EPIC: European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition). In part one of this study, each case was followed compared to an unexposed control to passive smoking. The numbers were even more impressive then, non-smokers, never-smokers, seeing their risks increase more than 40%.

Apply the Evin law at work
This study is fundamental because it should finally put an end to the debate on the dangers of passive smoking. It should also give ammunition to those who fight, especially as staff representatives in companies, so that their institutions are totally non-smoking. It should be recalled in this connection that in case of pathology contacted at work, it is the employer who is directly and personally responsible. It is important to show cases of passive smoking suffered in his establishment.

The application of the Evin law is more relevant than ever. We must also address the experiences of growing, limiting tobacco use, whether in Irish pubs (which are always full), as in the TGV or air travel (just as popular). A large majority of smokers wanting to quit smoking, it is possible that forbidding them to smoke in any public place, they are the first beneficiaries of a measure they fail to apply to themselves.
