There are all sorts of methods to quit smoking, the more outlandish the more serious, not to mention all the techniques and tips that are passed by word of mouth.
Here here the most soft method, that Dr. Philippe Presles, physician and tobacco specialist, offers its friends and clients.
This method comprises four steps.
Step 1
You continue to smoke, but you experience along the patches.
In the morning, you put a patch and you continue to smoke according to your desires.
Thus, without stress, you just see the effectiveness of patches to reduce your cravings and you find also with the patch, you smoke less naturally. You note especially that it is not dangerous to smoke with a patch.
This way, you reinforce your motivation to stop, and your confidence. You observe that it is perfectly possible to reduce your consumption, then stop.
Warning, you must use a patch with high dosage if you smoke more than 15 cigarettes a day (or two patches if you smoke 2 packs), and a patch with dosing below.
Step 2
You spot your needs and learn to choose each time between a cigarette and a metered gum 2 mg of nicotine.
You can replace some cigarettes gums (oral or other forms of nicotine replacement). To begin, choose the easiest to replace, then increase gradually. At your own pace, you will replace over more cigarettes gums.
Attention to support you always wear your patch also heavily dosed.
This step helps to get used to nicotine replacement therapy and learn to use them well.
Now, you control your desires, you know through your monitor consumption gums. As a bonus, each want, you have a choice: gum or cigarette.
Gradually, you will be working the hardest to give up cigarettes, like after coffee or after work.
Step 3
When you are ready, stop smoking. If necessary, set yourself a date.
Obviously you still have your high-dose patch (this is not the time to decrease) and your gums will reassure you. But with this method, you do not suffer, you control your stop, which is very reassuring.
The other advantage of NRT is to avoid cravings and therefore weight gain, and irritability.
The duration of the different stages varies. We can suggest 15 days to one month for each, but the pace is yours! At the third step, careful not stop too soon gums, take your time. As for the patch, you will decrease the dosage gradually, but certainly not too early either. The more you do this step last several months, the more you take insurance, you will have more confidence in you to free yourself of tobacco.
Step 4
Relapse is a common occurrence, but it is not a reason to give up. In the case of an accident, forget this difference (what ex-smoker has not done?), It is of no consequence if you do not stop the patch and gum
Otherwise consider this period as a break. The important thing is to never give up nicotine substitutes. Continue from step that best fits you, why not to the first.
